07 TECHNICAL TRAINING
Data Centre Infrastructure Lab
Built a data-centre training environment across physical and virtual servers: hardware and RAID configuration, iLO management, ESXi and Hyper-V virtualisation, Windows Server, VLAN networking, Active Directory, failover clustering, backup and recovery.

08 PERSONAL TECHNICAL PROJECT / HANDS-ON LAB
REST API Basics & Postman Testing Lab
Built and tested REST API endpoints with Node.js and Express.js. Used Postman to validate GET, POST, PUT and DELETE operations, JSON request and response bodies, path and query parameters, and expected HTTP 200, 201, 400 and 404 status codes.

09 PERSONAL PROJECT
From Induction Training to Client Proposals
Two connected apps for Japanese speakers who need to learn fast and then speak up in English at work. During induction training and probation, you cannot focus on study alone, trainers move at their own pace, and there is often no time to take notes. Record the training, and the apps turn it into notes and a practice script, so you understand the technical terms and can use them with confidence in meetings and client proposals. Students studying abroad, and anyone who finds it hard to listen and take notes at the same time, such as neurodivergent learners, can use them too.
I built this from my own experience. In on-the-job training, my trainer was doing their own work at the same time and explained things quickly, with an accent I was not used to. I could not follow or take notes, and was later told, “I already explained that.”
1. Listen. Give the training your full attention and record it: screen-record online sessions on Zoom or Teams, or use an audio recorder for face-to-face training. Always ask permission before recording a session.
2. Understand. Study Notes, a Windows app, transcribes the recording locally with Whisper and uses Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT or a local Ollama model to make 4-quadrant notes and an English presentation with a read-aloud script, saved as PowerPoint files. The Japanese edition writes the notes in Japanese, keeps key terms in English with katakana pronunciation and stress, and flags words and loanword traps that Japanese speakers often get wrong.
3. Present. Pronunciation Coach loads that presentation and uses Azure Speech pronunciation assessment to score each sentence phoneme by phoneme, with tips in Japanese, so you can practise explaining the content in your own words, with correct stress and pronunciation, before you speak in meetings or present to clients.
Why. AI translation is lowering language barriers in written and online work, and teams and relationships are becoming borderless. That makes live skills more important: understanding and speaking in real time in Zoom or Teams interviews, international calls, meetings and tutorials. These apps aim to help people whose language skills, not their ability, hold them back close that gap as quickly as possible, building real English skills while getting results in their studies and work. They currently support Japanese speakers learning English, with more languages planned. The full workflow is available on request.
Costs. Study Notes lets each user choose the AI and works with API keys. There are two free options, each with limits. The Gemini API free tier has usage caps, and Google may change what it offers for free. An open model run locally with Ollama costs nothing, but its notes are noticeably weaker than those from leading paid models. For the best notes, a paid API key for a stronger model such as Claude or ChatGPT is recommended. Pronunciation Coach uses the Azure Speech API, which has a limited free tier and is paid beyond it. Students can use the Azure for Students credit.
